              Dr. Muthukumar. M, Scientist (Plant Biotechnology), Division of Crop Improvement and Biotechnology, at ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow hails basically from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and born for Er. S. Manoharan, DGM (Retired, BSNL), (father) and Mrs. A. Visalakshi, SSO (Retired, BSNL) (mother). He had his under graduation, B.Sc in Agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, because of his keen love for plant molecular genetics. He had his master’s and doctoral degree in Biotechnology with specialization in plant biotechnology from TNAU. He has an excellent track record of securing first divisions and rank holder throughout his academic career. His academic career was supported by the fellowships; JNU Fellowship during M.Sc Biotechnology program (2000-2002), TNAU, Coimbatore and ICAR-SRF during PhD program (2013-2017). He has merits of clearing ICAR-JRF (2001), JNU Agri Biotech (2001), ICAR-SRF (2007), ARS-NET (2006) and ICAR-SRF (2013). His has vast knowledge and expertise in various fields of biotechnology viz., molecular biology, fruit genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, protein engineering, enzymology, bioinformatics and molecular breeding of plants. He has identified two elite drought tolerant rice varieties during PhD program. He has nearly 15 years experience in teaching and research and has been a role model for young researchers of Biotechnology. His oration and eloquence in the subject matter has made him as a most sorted personality for examiner, invited resource person and guest speaker by several colleges and Universities, throughout the country. Besides the academics and research profession, his administrative potentials are also noteworthy as he had successfully completed externally funding projects from different funding agencies. Recently he co-ordinated and organized model training course with funding from Directorate of Extension, Govt. of India, New Delhi. He has the credit of achieving Young Scientist Award from Green Earth Research Foundation for the year 2013. He has published around 40 research articles in reputed and peer-reviewed both international and national journals, edited books and contributed for book chapters in publications of international repute. His zeal for music and literature has fetched him laurels in music and literary field as well. Moreover, he is a kind, humble, gentle pious and dedicated personality to research and development in plant sciences.
