Dr.S.R.Pandravada has been associated with Crop Genetic Resources research activities for the last 29 years in various capacities at NBPGR Reg.Station, Hyderabad and immensely contributed in the Conservation and Management of Agro-biodiversity in South-East Coastal/ Peninsular India.

He has undertaken more than 69 collection missions augmenting well over 14,500 accessions of  germplasm in Agri-horticultural crops, wild relatives, medicinal & aromatic plants and rare & endangered species from Southern Peninsular India. Associated in the characterization/ evaluation/ multiplication/ maintenance of about 15,500 accessions of different Agri-horticultural crops and currently handling curatorial responsibility for Chilli, Small millets and Beans. Contributed about 10,000 accs. of germplasm to the National Gene Bank (NGB) for conservation of Agro-biodiversity. Associated/ contributed with the Technology Development and release of four varieties in Rice (Maruteru Sannalu), Sorghum (Parbhani Moti) and Coriander (APHU Dhania-1 and Sudha) and Germplasm Registration of 11 accessions in Bottle gourd, Chilli, Cowpea, Dolichos bean, Green gram, Jatropha curcas and Linseed which made a visible and high impact with yield advantage and additional economic returns to the Farming community up Rs.135 Cr.. Associated in the collection, identification and describing a naturally occurring new taxon of cultivated Turmeric. Jointly published a detailed Germplasm Catalogue on Indigenous Maize Germplasm Collections from India and a CD on Medicinal Plants Germplasm Collections from South East Coastal India.

Dr.Pandravada is a Member, Core Advisory Group/ Reviewer for revision of the descriptors for Rice, Cowpea and Sorghum taken up by Bioversity International and also an expert member related to Agri-biodiversity to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State Biodiversity Boards. Visited USA for professional enhancement with USDA. Associated in organizing National/ International Seminars(6),  Training Programmes (11) and  PGR Awareness Workshops (17). Member of the NBPGR team that got Best Institute Awards and Observer, “MOP 6” and “COP 11” held in India. Awarded Fellow of ISPGR, PPAI and AABS. Recognized Supervisor for guiding M.Sc./ Ph.D Students and published well over 150 Research Articles/ Symposia Papers and also has more than 125 Citations.

He also took lead in facilitating Registration of four Farmers’ Varieties in Green gram (Balinta pesalu), Pigeon pea (Erramachcha kandi) and Sorghum (Pelala jonna & Vayunowka jonna) with PPVFRA and one in Chilli (Arjun) with ICAR for IPR protection. A large number of farmer and tribal groups in South East Coastal India were immensely benefitted because of his above efforts.
